Pride History present 15

This Pakistani American sparked a movement of "honest" poetry during his search for harmony. 

He helped start Sangat Chicago and wrote in Urdu, Punjabi, and English.

Pride History present 14

It's June, so let's celebrate writing with a Pride History present.

 

This writer was Black, gay and young during the AIDS epidemic and strove to integrate all identities to create a functional self not defined by sexuality or race. 

 

Hemphill's writing was also in motion pictures such as "Tongues United" (1989), "Looking For Langston" (1988), and "Black is...Black Ain't" (1994)
