WRITE VOLUMES is currently accepting quality submissions for its next anthologies that will be published in 2022. Seeking fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction generally between 500-6000 words.

Our "Shades Of" Anthologies tend to take place from an American identity perspective. How you view American identity is up to you. You can tell a story from your heritage, or some tale that happened to you in America based on your gender, ethnicity, something unique to you and how that conflicts, bridges, or harmonizes with American identity. 

Please provide a 2-3 sentence synopsis at the beginning of your piece and in your email.

No simultaneous submissions unless you retain the copyright.

·       Anthology submissions due date May 15, 2022

·       Shades of Chaos

o   We try to avoid chaos but sometimes we end up living with it. Maybe we made a mistake or maybe it was on purpose. Maybe you fed the kids too much sugar and they are jumping off the walls or maybe the world is ending and you have to fight for survival. Maybe you quit your job or want to quit. Maybe a spouse left or is having a baby. Maybe aliens are uncovered, or a new metal discovered, cars can run on water, let your imagination run wild. We want to explore the moments, lessons learned or not learned, adaptations or extinctions. Stories can range from humorous, serious, nonfiction, fiction, small revelations, insight to the human condition, romance, inspirational, eye opening or sublime

 


SECOND TOPIC

·       Anthology submissions due date Aug 1, 2022

·       Shades of Fantastic Horror

o   Send us your dark fantasy horror. Horror can range from apocalyptical, ghosts/ paranormal, or serial killers, to what you just found in your closet which could be a gateway to another realm.  Send us to another world screaming in terror or scare us with the magic in this one.

 

 

THIRD TOPIC

·       Anthology submissions due date Dec 15, 2022

·       Shades of Holiday Love

o   Send us your holiday romance. Romance should have a Happily Ever After (HEA) or Happily For Now (HFN) ending and utilize the regular romance conventions. Characters can include paranormal, human, alien while the time period can range from historical, contemporary or future but it should be based around a holiday (Christmas, Chanukkah, Halloween, Kwanzaa, Thanksgiving, Lunar New Year, New Years, Halloween etc). Pick your favorite or least favorite holiday and make us fall in love!

·       Shades of Positively Pandemic

o   While Covid has been life altering and often devastating, we are seeking stories about any POSITIVE changes the lockdown / Covid may have had for you or the characters you create. Did you get to spend more time with your family, quarantine with a loved one or without one, avoid coworkers, xenophobe, fear of people but now it’s a new normal with many people doing many things online including school, germaphobe, always wanted to learn more programs on the computer, parents finally learn to video chat, new appreciation for medical community, save money since no/ little travel, needed a break from dating to focus on self, new definitions of hero, upgraded your wifi, technology upgrades, clear out your Netflix list, catch up on book backlog?  This pandemic may have been filled with unprecedented horror which can be mentioned in the work, but we are trying to focus on any silver linings. Stories can range from humorous, serious, nonfiction, fiction, small revelations, insight to the human condition, romance, inspirational, eye opening or sublime.

·      Shades of Horrific Humour

o   Send us your horror humor. We want to be scared silly. Find the brighter side of bad, the lighter side of horror, the terrible side of funny. Horror can range from apocalyptical, ghosts/ paranormal, or serial killers, to what you just found in your closet after not cleaning it for the last decade or other questionable decisions.  Make us laugh as we hide under the covers with the lights on...or at least giggle so then we can worry what may have heard us....

 

 

THIRD TOPIC   - Open/ Current - CLOSED

·       Anthology submissions due date Dec 1st    2021

·       Shades of Timeless Love

o   Send us your time travel romance. Romance should have a "happily ever after"/ "happily for now" ending and utilize the regular romance conventions.  Characters can include paranormal, human, alien etc but at some point there should be a change in time from contemporary, historical, or future.  Some time travel aspect (big or small) should be tied into the story.
